CAMRA Guide The Club is very pleased to be in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide. Not many establishments in Huddersfield can boast this. We have been chosen because of the quality and extensive range of real ales which we sell. The Steward will be very pleased to discuss any requests for guest beers. We usually buy these in small barrels of 9 gallons at a time so that we get a regularly changing list of available beers. (over 540 in the last 4 years)
Beers All our regular beers and guest beers are listed on the notice board above the bar. We concentrate on providing quality beer. We are not the cheapest in the area but we think we are the best
Committee The Committee is elected at the Annual General Meeting held in March of each year from names proposed during the 4 weeks prior to the meeting. The Club has 3 Trustees, Phil Mitton, Robert Laidlaw and Keith Forward. The Committee consists of the persons listed in the glass notice board in the hall under the minutes of the last Annual General Meeting and meets about once a month, the minutes of the last meeting being displayed on the same notice board. The date of the next meeting is shown on the Home page of this website
Membership Membership may be full (male or female) (for which the annual subscription is £10 per year), associate (female only - £5 per year) or senior (male or female over 65 - £5 per year). Subscriptions are due on 1 January each year and are to be paid to the bar staff who will issue your new membership card. Please try to avoid busy times such as Friday evening when renewing your membership.
Rules of the Club These are displayed in a picture frame in the entrance hall and must be read at your earliest opportunity.
Opening Hours These are shown on the ‘Bar Information’ page.
Smoking Policy Since 1 July 2007 the whole Club is smoke-free in line with Government legislation.
Quiz Evening Every Tuesday we have a quiz evening starting at 9 pm or just after.
The questions are not too difficult (usually) and everyone enjoys the evening.
Pool Table There is a pool table (see Snooker page)
Television There are TV viewing faciilities in the Main Bar and the Games Room. BBC, ITV and ESPN are available during club opening hours. However, during special events e.g. Quiz Nights and Donkey Derby's the TV's will be switched off. To avoid arguments it has been decided that in the event of members wanting different channels at the same time then a majority decision of members present at the start of the event will prevail.
Social Functions Our policy is to NOT normally to have any activities which spoil the atmosphere for all members such as concerts, bingo, etc or anything similar with the exception of the Tuesday evening quiz. You can therefore safely come for a drink knowing what to expect! Occasionally (perhaps every 6 weeks) we organise something special but these are well advertised beforehand so you can either come to the function or avoid it!
Notice Boards Please get into the habit of looking at the notice boards in the hall as you may find items of interest.
Children Young persons are allowed in the main bar until 7pm on Saturdays and Sundays and at all times elsewhere in the club, providing they are under strict parental supervision. However, on selected theme nights the Committee will request the children to vacate the club by 9pm. In addition they are welcome to play snooker up to 9 pm as long as they play with a member.
Guests The rules about introducing guests are as stated on the rules of the Club displayed in the entrance hall and guests must be signed in using the book provided for that purpose.
Improvements Over the last 15 years or so we have made many improvements. In 1992 we re-pointed the outside of the building. In 1995 we provided the car park and got rid of the wilderness we used to have. In 1996 we renovated the whole of the ground floor inside. In 1999 we added the toilet facilities for disabled persons and the entrance to Wellfield Road. In the same year we installed an air cleaner in the lounge to remove tobacco smoke from the atmosphere. In 2000 we installed a new fire alarm and smoke detection system for added safety and built extra accommodation for the Steward and his family on top of the snooker room. This gave us an extra room downstairs for a pool room. In 2001 we decorated the lounge and re-covered all the chairs and finally in 2002 we installed a new emergency lighting system. In the first six months of 2004 we upgraded the snooker room and it is probably one of the best rooms in the district.
Wellfield Road Entrance Anyone wishing to use this entrance, on a regular basis, can purchase a key from the Steward for £1.50 The door may be used during normal opening hours and at other times by arrangement.
Behaviour Whilst we wish members to enjoy themselves at the Club we do not take kindly to drunkenness and behaviour or comments of a racist or sexist nature. Please remember that in a Club you meet the same members on a regular basis and you should therefore always be polite to each other. We also try to keep foul and/or abusive language to a minimum (although we would prefer to eradicate it completely!)
